DIESEL-HYBRID SYSTEM – HOSPITAL ALBERT-SCHWEITZER (HAITI)

The 131-bed Hospital Albert Schweitzer Haiti is the only 24/7 full-service hospital in the region, serving a population of more than 350,000 people. The hospital runs on diesel generators,resulting in generation costs of more than 350,000 USD per year. The main goal of the project was to minimize the hospital’s energy costs by substituting diesel power with a solar supply with PV and battery storage. The solar energy system minimizes the hospital’s future dependency on fuel supplies, and helps offset the rising cost of fuel, as a second energy source is integrated into the existing power supply and distribution system. Savings are expected to be around 250,000 USD per year.
